Homemade Hot Chocolate | Recipes

Christmas would not be christmas without good ol' hot chocolate. I seriously could not cope in these cold months without it. So I am going to share one of my favourite homemade hot chocolate recipes with you all, for those days you just want to add a bit more effort.

Everything you need:

  • 4 cups of milk

  • 1/3 cup of sugar

  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1/ tsp of vanilla extract (optional)

  • pinch of salt

  • treats

  • salted caramel sauce

  • whisk

  • medium pan

Start by heating the milk in a medium pan. (side note: make sure the milk does not boil). Continuously whisk the milk so it does not burn on the bottom of the pan.

When it is fully heated add in the sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract (if using), and a pinch of salt - sounds crazy I know but just trust me.

Keep whisking until all ingredients are mixed and then take off the heat.

Than take out a spoonful of the salted caramel sauce and place it in a microwavable container. Place it in the microwave for ten seconds on full power, take out and stir and the place back in for another ten seconds. And I can't stress enough how important it is to actually stir it! I have been there thinking ohh it doesn't matter I'll just put it in for 20 seconds...DON'T. It will burn and it can set on fire.

Anyway...whilst that is in the microwave pick out your favourite mug and pour in the hot chocolate. Then decorate with your favourite little treats, I picked mini marshmallows and some christmas chocolates. Finally get your caramel sauce out the microwave and drizzle over the top.

Then go grab a blanket, get cosy on the couch and put your favourite film on as that's all what winter is about.

Make sure to come back every wednesday at 5pm for a new post. See you then!
